04
Cookies and advert measurement
Cookies are small files a website stores in your browser so it can recognise it later. We use very few, and the ones that measure our adverts only run if you click Accept in the cookie banner.
What happens when you accept
We load the Meta Pixel, a small piece of code from Meta, the company behind Facebook and Instagram. It tells Meta when someone visits the site, joins the waitlist or confirms their place, so we can see which adverts work. When you join or confirm, we also send Meta your email address in encrypted form, so it can be matched to the advert you saw. We never send it in plain text.
We and Meta Platforms Ireland Limited are jointly responsible for collecting this information and passing it to Meta. What Meta does with it afterwards is covered by Meta's Privacy Policy.
What happens when you decline
Nothing is loaded and nothing is sent to Meta. The website and the waitlist work exactly the same.
Cookies we use
| Name | Set by | What it does | How long |
|---|---|---|---|
| _fbp | Meta | Recognises your browser across visits, to measure our adverts. Only if you accept. | 90 days |
| _fbc | Meta | Remembers which advert you clicked to get here. Only if you accept. | 90 days |
We also store your cookie choice and a few technical settings in your browser.
Changing your mind
You can change your cookie settings at any time. If you decline after accepting, we switch off the Meta Pixel and delete Meta's cookies from your browser. You can also clear cookies yourself in your browser settings.
05
Who we share it with
We only share your information with the services we need to run the website and the waitlist, and they may only use it on our instructions:
- Framer (Framer B.V., Netherlands) hosts this website and may collect basic, cookie-free statistics such as page views.
- HighLevel (HighLevel Inc., USA) stores the waitlist and sends our emails.
- WhatsApp (WhatsApp Ireland Limited) runs our community, if you choose to join it.
- Meta (Meta Platforms Ireland Limited) receives the advert measurement information described above, only if you accept cookies.
We may also share information when the law requires it, or with professional advisers such as our accountant or solicitor.
06
Sending information outside the UK
Some of these services are based in, or use servers in, the European Union or the United States. When your information is sent there, it's protected either by UK adequacy regulations, which cover the EU and US companies certified under the UK Extension to the EU–US Data Privacy Framework, or by the UK's International Data Transfer Agreement or Addendum. You can ask us for details.
07
How long we keep it
- Waitlist details: until you unsubscribe, or 24 months after we last contacted you, whichever comes first.
- Unsubscribe record: your email address and the date, for as long as we send marketing emails, so we never contact you again by mistake.
- Messages you send us: for as long as we need to help you, and no longer than 2 years.
- Cookies: see the table above. Your cookie choice is remembered for 180 days.
08
Your rights
Under UK data protection law, you can:
- ask for a copy of the information we hold about you
- ask us to correct it or delete it
- ask us to limit or stop using it
- object to how we use it where we rely on our legitimate interests
- ask for it in a format you can take elsewhere
- withdraw your consent at any time, without affecting anything we did before
Email support@islajamesacademy.com and we'll reply within one month. It's free, and we may ask you to confirm your identity first.
09
Children
The waitlist and the programme are for adults. We don't knowingly collect information from anyone under 18.
10
Changes to this policy
If we change how we use your information, we'll update this page and the date at the top. If the change is significant, we'll email you first.
11
Questions and complaints
If something doesn't seem right, please tell us first at support@islajamesacademy.com and we'll do our best to put it right. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113.
