Isla James Academy

Terms & Conditions

Last updated: 8 October 2026

These terms cover two things: using this website, and buying Compose With Light. The first part applies to everyone, the second once you buy. If anything is unclear, please ask us before you buy rather than after.

01

Who we are

islajamesacademy.com and Compose With Light are run by ISLA JAMES INTERIORS LIMITED, a company registered in England and Wales (company number GB312874702), with its registered office at THE OLD CART SHED, HAW FARM, HAMPSTEAD NORREYS, THATCHAM, RG18 0TP, GB.

You can reach us at support@islajamesacademy.com.

02

Using this website

  • Everything on this website, including text, photographs, videos and designs, belongs to Isla James or is used with permission. Please don't copy or reuse it without asking us first.
  • What we share here is general inspiration, not advice for your particular project.
  • We link to other websites and apps, such as Instagram and WhatsApp. We're not responsible for their content or how they handle your information.
  • We work hard to keep the website accurate and running, but we can't promise it will always be available or free of errors.

03

The waitlist

Joining the waitlist is free and doesn't commit you to buying anything.

Waitlist members are offered a founding member price when doors open. We'll set out the details, including how long the offer lasts, when it's released. The offer can't be exchanged for cash or combined with other discounts.

04

Buying Compose With Light

What you get

When you buy, you get access to:

  • the Compose With Light programme, seven video modules on our online learning platform
  • the Lighting Toolkit downloads
  • The Lighting Clinic, our community, including group calls

You'll have lifetime access to the programme for as long as we run it, including any updates we make. When you finish, you'll receive a certificate of completion.

Price and payment

Prices are shown in pounds sterling and include VAT where it applies. Payment is taken securely by Stripe through our checkout. Your contract with us begins when we confirm your order by email.

If you pay in instalments, each payment is taken automatically on the dates shown at checkout. You're agreeing to pay the full price, so this isn't a subscription you can cancel. If a payment fails and isn't made within 14 days, we may pause your access until it is.

Your right to cancel

Under UK law, you normally have 14 days to change your mind about something you buy online. With digital content, that right ends once your access begins.

At checkout, we'll ask you to confirm that you'd like access to start straight away and that you understand you'll lose the right to cancel when it does. If you'd rather wait, contact us before you buy.

On top of this, if the programme isn't right for you, we'll give you a full refund if you ask within 14 days of buying and have completed less than 10% of it. Just email support@islajamesacademy.com.

Using the programme

Your access is for you alone.

  • Please don't share your login, or copy, record, resell or pass on the videos and downloads.
  • You're welcome to use what you learn in your own home and, if you're a designer, in your work for clients.
  • If we find an account being shared, we may close it without a refund.

The Lighting Clinic

We want the community to be a generous, useful place. Please be kind, keep other members' projects and details private, and don't use it to sell. We may remove anyone who doesn't. The number and timing of group calls may change.

Changes to the programme

We keep improving the programme, so lessons and downloads may be updated, added or replaced over time. We won't make changes that leave you with substantially less than what you paid for.

05

Lighting, electrics and safety

Compose With Light teaches lighting design, not electrical installation. Any electrical work must be carried out by a qualified electrician, in line with current Building Regulations, including Part P in England and Wales.

Your electrician and any other professionals are responsible for how the work is carried out. You're responsible for checking that your decisions suit your space.

06

Our responsibility to you

We're responsible for loss you suffer that's a foreseeable result of us breaking these terms or failing to use reasonable care and skill. We're not responsible for loss that wasn't foreseeable, or for how other people carry out your designs.

If you use the programme in your business, our total responsibility to you is limited to the price you paid, and we're not responsible for any loss of profit, business or opportunity.

Nothing in these terms limits our responsibility where it would be unlawful to do so, including for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, or for fraud. If you're buying as a consumer, your legal rights are not affected.

07

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time. The version in place when you bought applies to your purchase.

08

The law that applies

These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales. If you live in Scotland or Northern Ireland, you can also bring proceedings in your local courts.

09

Questions and complaints

If you have a question or something isn't right, email support@islajamesacademy.com and we'll do our best to help.
